Finding myself a pair of shoes has been comedic if you have a sense of humor. So many tried in-store, ordered online - high hopes dashed after trying on another poor fit that was destined to be returned. Then I found a perfect sandal at Barney's only to be told by the associate that my size was sold out - everywhere.
Eventually, I shopped the designer sales at a few of the big department stores. Ultimately I found what I needed when I walked into the Vince store. I love the Vince Store. It is dark and dreamy with fine linen, cottons, and silks so tempting to touch. The store itself is very stark and concrete, minimal at it's best. Just by the front of the store sits a low table and there they were. Gorgeous, suede flats with just a hint of a wedge. I typically cannot wear flats - my heel is narrow and I usually walk right out them - looking completely uncoordinated - who trips while wearing flats? But I had to try. The fit is perfection. The colors are amazing and though the Oxblood is stunning-much richer than the photo below. I chose the graphite.
After I got home I did my usual shopping research where I found the style online in a number of colors. I know this is a style that has been made for many seasons and now I know why.

Last months' must-haves were all duds. My conservative husband did not like the leather pants, there was no reasonable bra for the dress and the sweater was a miss. I'm glad though to have put those funds into my fall shopping account. Pre-Fall and Fall One are usually the highlights of the season for me - when our weather is the warmest. I'm an immediate gratification shopper so buy now, wear later is absolutely frustrating.
Isn't it nice how a new pair of shoes can get you out of a funk. I know my new shoes are nothing like the sandals I'd been searching for, but I wanted something to wear with capris that are comfortable, stylish and unique - mission accomplished.
Have you found yourself a perfect something this season? Are you planning for fall or soaking up summer?
PS-Who watched the Tony's on Sunday night? Such a great show....Hugh is the man "Wolverine in Tap Shoes" a great line.
I have been thinking the same thing - why are decent shoes so hard to find?? I have been wondering about d'Orsay flat shoes for a while - they look different and interesting, but I'm worried that my heel might slip out of them while walking. The Vince ones look really nice!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lousie-I thought it was just me having such a hard time finding shoes. The Vince flats are serving me well so far. Good luck!
DeleteI hear you when you talk about flats. Kikis from J. Crew have been the only ones that fit me well.
ReplyDeleteMy perfects shoe this summer are the metallic suede slingbacks, also from JC. They fit like a glove and have received many compliments on them already.
I just got into the summer mode... fall seems so far away right now.
Hi Rose, I'd love to find another flat as the new pair from Vince are going to get a lot of mileage. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThere must be something in the air, it's been shoes, shoes, shoes, and no real feeling of success. And I've been returning so much stuff, it's ridiculous. If I could lose 10 or 15 pounds in a hurry, I'd consider finding a nudist colony in a warm climate. As long as I didn't have to play volleyball.
ReplyDeleteFred - someone needs my weight, too! i am thinking of sending mine to kate middleton - she has the height to carry it off...
Deletefred-you are a card...nudist volleyball....snicker...not me. Hoping fall is a better season-though I'll likely live in boots which is my cold weather M.O.
DeleteI was actually thinking they need more couture shoe shops. They cost a fortune anyway so might as well mold your feet?! I want flip flops but not as socially acceptable...
ReplyDeleteFlips flops are not for me. I can't stand that piece between my toes. Just as well I suppose. They look great and I'd want to live in them.
DeleteI have tried the style of d'orsays you show above but they simply won't stay on my feet! I wish I could wear them - I walk right out of them, unless they are so much smaller that they hurt!
ReplyDeleteMy only purchase in the last month was a gorgeous white linen bryn walker linen tank and matching wide white linen trousers. so airy and nice! I blew spring budget so am not trying to be good for fall..
This is my first time having luck with this style, Wendy. Your white linen sound stunning and classic-enjoy!
DeleteI got a new pair of flip flops...I have ordered nude wedges but just got an email they will not be in until the end of July. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThese D'orsay style flats in suede are really cute and I'm loving the J Crew version they just came out with. I'm thinking of splurging and getting them for fall.. Just saw you returned the leather pants! Could be hard to wear a lot I guess..
