LA Lady

My sweet husband and I spent the weekend in LA.  Our first ever weekend away from our boys that included an airplane.  We have spent the night away a few times but have never ventured further than a 2 hour drive from home, so this was a big deal for us.  We knew it would be fine as the boys were with family friends and had lots do to.

The reason for the trip was a much needed get away and an opportunity to stay with my cousin and his wife - now empty nesters - at their beautiful home.  We were whisked away from the airport to a funky little tavern, and for one who very rarely drinks during the day, my first taste of LA set the tone for the weekend.  There were cocktails, wine and delicious meals throughout.

Saturday we split up - the guys to do guy stuff - chicken wings, basketball games and a drive through the hills.  The gals had a lovely brunch - the waiters are stunning in LA, especially the gentleman who called us "darlings" with his Aussie accent as he brought our mimosa - earning himself a generous tip. We explored some fabulous boutiques on Melrose and then headed to the DVF exhibit before venturing to a few more shops and ending up on Rodeo Drive - which is over the top in so many ways.

The DVF exhibit entry features poster sized photos of Diane and various celebrities wearing her wrap dresses, articles, magazine covers and highlights of the past 4 decades, a room of art work - many pieces star the designer and a large room of dresses from the archives to current pieces.  While you can tell from some of the prints of the fabrics that a dress was created in 1976 instead of 1996, many could still be relevant today.  The collars and belts were wider during the first couple of decades, but the commitment to ease and wearability never wavered, it only improved over time.

Of course we shopped at the DVF boutique on Melrose and I was tempted, but restrained.  My favorite try on was a Limited Edition Pop Wrap dress - far better in person than online - IMHO.  At the moment this is my top choice, but I need to see more.  After visiting the exhibit, I am more obsessed than ever with finding the next wrap for my wardrobe.  Though 20lbs lighter than when I bought my first wrap dress in NY, I can still wear it, pulled tighter with a cami or slip underneath to take up some space. Being able to wear these dresses for years as the scale fluctuates is really amazing.

Saturday night was dinner, jazz and drinks, and Sunday was a late brunch and a quick plane ride home to reality.  One of the best parts of the weekend - the text from my husband Monday morning asking when we should plan our next trip.  Love that guy for enjoying a good weekend as much as I did.

How was your weekend?  Any travels in your future?

Have a great week and as always - your comments are welcome.

BTW-Did you see the Emerson Fry Warm Spring Preview this morning.  To quote Ms. Zoe, "I die!"

  1. We call them "love weekends". And however you can do it, I think it is wonderful for a marriage to escape without kids once in awhile. Glad you had a great time.

What did you order from Crew. I've been striking out there-nothing for me in ages.

    1. Hi Dani-Hubby and I do get out in the evenings for date nights every few weeks, but nothing compares to time away. LA is great fun and my cousin's wife invited me back in the fall for shopping after the last pesky 10lbs are off-major motivation. EF looks really great - always better in person too.
